Divorced parents, disobedient children, abuse, neglect, isolation…there are times that family situations feel hopeless. If ever there was an area in life where we need a “do over” it’s with our family. Thanks to God we have that incredible ability. God loves you, and he wants the best for your family. Regardless of how desperate or broken the situation may seem, God is able to make all things new:
“And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again…Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” 2 Corinthians 5:15,17
What a wonderful promise! God is able to restore and repair broken hearts, broken homes, and broken promises. The promise of hope isn’t just an individual promise. It’s one that is given to your entire family.
In the book of Acts a man asks a pointed, and simple question, “What must I do to be saved?” The response was telling. “‘Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.’ And they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their wounds; and he was baptized at once, he and all his family.” (Acts 16: 30-33).
Whatever the situation is, the first step in the right direction is to place your faith, or your confidence, in God, and to encourage your entire family to do the same. Hebrews 11:6 says, “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
