Financial issues are some of the most discussed issues in the Bible. In troubling financial times, the wisdom and understanding that we receive from the Word of God amount to the some of the most sound financial principles that you could follow. From how much to save to the proper way to borrow to when not to borrow, there is no better guide to financial peace than the Bible. That said, we must understand that true happiness, peace, and hope will never come from a bank account.
The book of 1 Timothy tells us, “Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy. Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is life indeed.”
Hope and happiness can’t be obtained through money, possessions, or people. We must learn to rely upon God completely for everything that we need. If our future and our hope is pinned to “the uncertainty of riches” then we’ll live a life of disappointment. When we put our hope and trust in God, and are generous with what He has blessed us with, we build up treasure in heaven. Still, you should take comfort that everything that you need in life is within God’s ability to provide.
“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6:33
“…remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the ability to produce wealth.” Deuteronomy 8:18
“And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” Phillipians 4:19
