Most people identify hope as wishful thinking, such as “I hope I win the lottery” or “I hope my job situation gets better.” By that definition, having hope is no better than a making a wish, or a dreaming of a better life. When the Bible talks about hope, however, it means a “joyful and confident expectation.”
Having hope means that we have assurance regarding the uncertain and unknown (Romans 8:24-25). Without hope, life has no meaning - Job said “my days…come to an end without hope,” (Job 7:6) and that in death there is no hope (Job 17:15).
But there is hope.
Those who put their trust in God, and hope in Him will be helped. Psalm 28:7 says “The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped.” God is on your side. He wants to help you. In fact, He said Himself in Isaiah 49:23 that “those who hope in me will not be disappointed.”
